Where to Stay in Mallorca for First-Time Visitors
If you’re wondering where to stay in Mallorca for a first visit, here’s the short answer: Palma is usually the safest choice!!
The island’s capital offers a little bit of everything — beautiful architecture, great restaurants, boutique hotels, nightlife, and easy access to the rest of the island. If you’re staying in Palma, I’d look at Sant Francesc Hotel Singular or Nobis Hotel Palma.
That said, there isn’t one perfect place to stay in Mallorca. The best area depends entirely on the type of trip you’re planning.
For first-time visitors, these are the areas I’d recommend:
- Palma – Best overall for sightseeing, restaurants, nightlife, and staying in Mallorca without a car.
- Deià – Best for luxury stays, mountain scenery, and unforgettable views. La Residencia is the iconic hotel here and worth every bit of the hype!!
- Sóller – Best for charm, hiking, and exploring the Tramuntana mountains.
- Santanyí – Best for couples, boutique hotels, markets, and nearby beaches. Can Ferrereta is one of my favorite hotels on the island.
- Alcúdia & Port de Pollença – Best for beaches, families, and relaxed resort-style stays.
- Artà – Best for nature, wellness, and slower travel. Es Racó d’Artà is perfect if you want to completely switch off.
Personally, if you’re staying 3–5 days, I’d choose Palma. If you have a week or longer, split your stay between Palma and somewhere like Deià or Santanyí. You’ll experience two completely different sides of Mallorca — and that’s when the island really starts to shine!!
My Top Hotels in Mallorca
Short on time? These are the three hotels I’d book first:
- 🏔️ Best Luxury Hotel in Mallorca: La Residencia
The iconic Mallorca hotel. If you’re celebrating something special or simply want the ultimate luxury stay on the island, this is the one I’d choose every time!! - ✨ Best Hotel for First-Time Visitors: Sant Francesc Hotel Singular
Perfect if you’re staying in Palma and want to explore Mallorca without renting a car. The location is fantastic, and that rooftop alone is worth booking for!! - 💛 Best Hotel for Couples: Can Ferrereta
A beautiful boutique hotel in Santanyí with a romantic atmosphere, gorgeous design, and easy access to some of Mallorca’s prettiest beaches.
I’ve included more details below, but if you’re looking for a quick answer, you really can’t go wrong with any of these!! ✨

Best Hotels in Mallorca
If you’re wondering where to stay in Mallorca, these are the hotels I’d personally book. From luxury countryside retreats to stylish Palma stays, I’d be happy staying at any of them!!
1. La Residencia, Deià
Best for: Luxury travelers, special occasions, and anyone looking for an unforgettable Mallorca hotel.
Let’s start with the most iconic hotel in Mallorca… because if you’re looking for the ultimate luxury stay, it’s hard to beat La Residencia!!
Tucked away in the beautiful village of Deià, this is the kind of place people dream about long after they leave. Surrounded by olive groves, mountains, and gorgeous gardens, it feels like everything you imagine Mallorca will be.
Spend your days relaxing by the pool, enjoying the spa, exploring the Tramuntana mountains, or lingering over a long lunch at El Olivo. Even if you’re not staying here, I’d still recommend stopping by for a coffee or sunset drink. The views alone are worth it!!
Is it expensive? Absolutely. But if you’re looking for a luxury hotel in Mallorca that’s truly worth the splurge, La Residencia would be my first choice every time!!

2. Gran Hotel Son Net
Best for: Couples, design lovers, and travelers looking for a quieter luxury escape.
While La Residencia gets most of the attention, Gran Hotel Son Net feels like one of Mallorca’s best-kept secrets!!
Hidden in the mountains near Puigpunyent, this beautifully restored manor house has just 31 rooms, giving it a much more intimate feel than many of the island’s larger luxury hotels.
The interiors are stunning, the pool is gorgeous, and the entire property feels calm in the best possible way. It’s the kind of place where you plan to spend the day exploring Mallorca… and somehow end up staying by the pool instead.
If you’re looking for a romantic hotel in Mallorca that feels elegant, peaceful, and a little more under the radar, Grand Hotel Son Net is such a good choice. Honestly, it might just be one of the island’s most underrated luxury hotels!! ✨

3. Es Racó d’Artà
Best for: Wellness travelers, nature lovers, and anyone wanting to slow down.
Not every Mallorca trip has to be about beach clubs, packed itineraries, and rushing from one sight to the next…
Tucked away in the countryside outside Artà, Es Racó d’Artà is all about nature, wellness, and switching off for a few days. From the peaceful pools and spa to the surrounding hills and walking trails, everything here is designed to help you slow down.
If you’re wondering where to stay in Mallorca for relaxation, this is one of the first hotels I’d recommend. It’s the kind of place you book when you want a few days to recharge, reconnect with nature, and simply enjoy a slower pace of life.
I left Es Racó d’Artà wanting to stay longer… and I have a feeling you will too!! ✨

4. Sant Francesc Hotel Singular
Best for: First-time visitors, city lovers, and travelers who don’t want to rent a car.
If you’re only visiting Mallorca for a few days, I’d seriously consider staying in Palma. And if you’re looking for one of the best hotels in the city, Sant Francesc Hotel Singular is hard to beat!!
Set inside a beautifully restored mansion in the heart of the Old Town, you’re within walking distance of restaurants, cafés, shops, historic sights, and some of Palma’s best bars. The rooftop pool is a huge highlight, with beautiful views over the city’s rooftops and church towers.
For anyone wondering where to stay in Mallorca without a car, Sant Francesc Hotel Singular is one of my top recommendations. And honestly? That rooftop alone almost makes me want to book a return trip!!

5. The Lodge Mallorca
Best for: Foodies, nature lovers, and travelers looking for a countryside escape.
One of the things many first-time visitors don’t realize is that some of the best hotels in Mallorca aren’t near the beach at all.
Surrounded by olive groves, lavender fields, and open countryside, The Lodge feels a world away from the island’s busier beach towns. It’s peaceful, secluded, and the kind of place where you instantly slow down the moment you arrive.
If you’re looking for a countryside hotel in Mallorca, The Lodge is one of the first places I’d consider. The setting is beautiful, the food is excellent, and it offers a quieter side of the island that many visitors never get to experience.

6. Can Ferrereta
Best for: Couples, honeymooners, and boutique hotel lovers.
If you’re searching for where to stay in Mallorca for couples, start here!! Located in the charming town of Santanyí, Can Ferrereta combines beautiful design, local art, a fantastic spa, and one of the most romantic atmospheres on the island.
What I love most is the location. You’re within walking distance of restaurants, galleries, and cafés, but just a short drive from some of Mallorca’s prettiest beaches. It really does give you the best of both worlds.
For a honeymoon, anniversary trip, or romantic getaway, Can Ferrereta is one of the hotels I’d recommend first. It’s stylish, relaxing, and incredibly easy to love!!

7. Nobis Hotel Palma
Best for: Design lovers and stylish city breaks.
If Sant Francesc feels classic Mallorca, Nobis feels a little more modern…
Located in Palma’s Old Town, this beautifully restored palace combines historic architecture with sleek Scandinavian design. The result feels elegant, stylish, and refreshingly different from many of the island’s luxury hotels.
If great design matters to you as much as location, Nobis is easily one of the coolest hotels in Mallorca right now. The spa is fantastic, the atmosphere is relaxed, and it’s the perfect base for exploring Palma!!

How Long Should You Stay in Mallorca?
One of the questions I get asked most often is how many days you need in Mallorca.
Honestly? You could easily spend two weeks here and still leave with places left on your list. But for most first-time visitors, I’d recommend spending at least 5–7 days on the island if you can.
Here’s a quick breakdown:
- 3 Days – Perfect for a long weekend. Stay in Palma, explore the Old Town, enjoy a few great restaurants, and take a day trip to the mountains or coast.
- 5 Days – My minimum recommendation for a first visit. You’ll have enough time to experience Palma, visit a few beaches, and explore the Tramuntana mountains without feeling rushed.
- 7 Days – The sweet spot for most travelers. This gives you enough time to split your stay between two areas, such as Sant Francesc Hotel Singular in Palma and La Residencia in Deià.
- 10+ Days – Ideal if you love slow travel. You’ll have time to explore different parts of the island and actually enjoy your hotel rather than constantly moving around.
Personally, if it’s your first time in Mallorca, I’d aim for a week. Mallorca is one of those places that’s much better when you slow down a little… and having time to experience both the city and the mountains makes a huge difference!!

Tips for Staying in Mallorca First Time
Before you book your hotel, here are a few things I wish I’d known before my first trip to Mallorca!!
- Stay in Palma if you’re unsure – If it’s your first visit and you can’t decide where to stay in Mallorca, Palma is usually the safest choice. You’ll have great restaurants, beautiful hotels, and easy access to the rest of the island.
- Rent a car if you’re leaving Palma – Mallorca is much bigger than most people expect. Having a car makes it much easier to explore beaches, mountain villages, and some of the island’s most beautiful corners. I usually use Discover Cars when renting a car in Mallorca!!
- Visit in spring or fall if you can – May, June, September, and October are my favorite months. The weather is fantastic, the sea is warm, and you’ll avoid some of the biggest summer crowds.
- Book your hotel early – The best hotels in Mallorca, especially La Residencia, Can Ferrereta, and Sant Francesc Hotel Singular, often sell out months in advance. If you have your eye on a specific hotel, don’t wait too long!!
- Don’t try to see everything – Mallorca is one of those places that’s best enjoyed slowly. Leave time for long lunches, lazy beach afternoons, and wandering through villages with no real plan!!

FAQs About Where to Stay in Mallorca
For most first-time visitors, I’d recommend Palma. It offers a little bit of everything — beautiful architecture, great restaurants, boutique hotels, nightlife, and easy access to the rest of the island. If you’re only visiting Mallorca once, it’s a fantastic place to start!!
Palma is easily the best place to stay in Mallorca without a car. You’ll be within walking distance of restaurants, attractions, shops, and some of the city’s best hotels. It’s also well connected to the rest of the island, making day trips easy.
For couples, I’d recommend Santanyí or Deià. Santanyí is perfect for boutique hotels, great restaurants, and nearby beaches, while Deià offers stunning mountain scenery and a more romantic atmosphere. Can Ferrereta and La Residencia would be my top picks!!
If beach days are your priority, I’d recommend Alcúdia, Port de Pollença, or Cala d’Or. All three offer beautiful beaches, plenty of hotels and restaurants, and that relaxed holiday atmosphere Mallorca does so well. They’re especially popular with first-time visitors looking for an easy beach getaway.
Alcúdia and Port de Pollença are two of the best places to stay in Mallorca for families. Both have long sandy beaches, calm water, family-friendly hotels, and plenty of restaurants nearby. They’re easy to get around, relaxed, and perfect if you’re traveling to Mallorca with kids.
If it’s your first time in Mallorca, I’d usually choose Palma. You’ll have more restaurants, attractions, and hotel options, plus it’s easier to explore the rest of the island. Deià is absolutely beautiful, but I think it works best as a day trip or part of a longer stay!
