If it’s your first time in the city, Downtown Cairo is hands down one of the best areas to stay in Cairo. You’ll be within walking distance of some of the most iconic landmarks in Egypt, like the Egyptian Museum and Tahrir Square, making sightseeing super easy.

This area is also home to Khan el Khalili, Cairo’s most famous market, where you can shop for souvenirs, spices, and handmade crafts. It’s a lively, historic part of the city—but be ready for honking, traffic, and a fast-paced atmosphere!

If you want to be right in the heart of Cairo and don’t mind a little chaos, Downtown is one of the best places to stay in Cairo.

2. Giza: Best for Pyramid Views & Easy Access to the Plateau

If waking up to a direct view of the Great Pyramids is on your Egypt bucket list, Giza hotels offer some of the most unreal pyramid views in the world.

But one thing to keep in mind—Giza isn’t central Cairo. Getting to places like Islamic Cairo, Downtown, or Coptic Cairo (where some believe Jesus once lived!) takes at least 45 minutes by car, and even longer with traffic.

Bonus Tip: Apart from the pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, there’s not much to do in Giza. The area is still developing, and while some luxury hotels in Giza offer breathtaking views, the surroundings can feel a bit rough. If you stay here, do your research to make sure it’s the right fit for you!

Looking for a calm, modern stay? New Cairo is an upscale district filled with gated communities, malls, and international restaurants. It’s great for business travelers, expats, or families visiting Egypt with kids.

It’s also close to Cairo International Airport, making it a convenient choice if you have an early flight. But keep in mind—this also means long drives to all the famous landmarks and top things to do in Cairo.

I loved my hotel in New Cairo (I’ll share which one below!), and if I ever lived in Cairo, this would probably be my go-to neighborhood. But for a first-time visitor, I wouldn’t recommend it—Cairo’s real magic is best experienced elsewhere!

My advice? If you’re planning to see both the Giza Pyramids and Central Cairo, don’t waste time switching hotels—just pick one spot and take an Uber when needed (they’re super cheap!).

Cairo is loud—there’s no escaping the honking, shouting, and late-night street life. But some areas are noisier than others:
