Top 10 Warm Destinations in October
1. Hurghada, Egypt – Avg Temp: 31°C (88°F)
Hurghada is one of the warmest destinations in October and a great pick if you just want to relax without overthinking your plans. Located right on the Red Sea, it offers hot, dry weather, warm water, and tons of beachfront resorts—many of them all-inclusive and affordable.
I came here after visiting Cairo and Luxor, and it was exactly what I needed. The snorkeling is some of the best I’ve done, and the water is crystal clear. You can take boat trips to nearby islands, try diving or kitesurfing, or just hang out by the pool and do absolutely nothing.
October is also one of the best months to visit Egypt. It’s still hot enough for swimming, but without the oppressive summer heat. It’s quieter too, which means better deals and fewer crowds.
🌊 Where I’d stay: La Maison Bleue El Gouna – A luxurious hideaway with just 13 uniquely designed suites, right on the Red Sea. Elegant, peaceful, and perfect if you’re craving a one-of-a-kind escape.

2. Mirissa, Sri Lanka – Avg Temp: 30°C (86°F)
Sunshine, golden beaches, and a slower pace of life—Mirissa is one of my top picks for warm destinations in October. It’s a laid-back beach town on Sri Lanka’s south coast—perfect for solo travelers, surfers, or anyone who just wants to slow down and enjoy the sunshine.
I spent three days here during my Sri Lanka tuk-tuk road trip, but honestly, most people end up staying longer. With golden beaches, cozy villas, and a surprisingly good international food scene, it’s easy to settle into the rhythm here.
Popular things to do in October:
- Chill at Mirissa or Secret Beach
- Watch the sunset from Coconut Tree Hill
- Go whale watching or swim with turtles
- Grab brunch at Shady Lane or Lost Paradise
October is the start of the dry season on the south coast, so it’s the perfect time to visit before the crowds arrive. If you’re planning a longer trip around the island, check out my guide to the best and worst time to visit Sri Lanka.
🏖️ Where I’d stay: The Nine Mirissa – Beautiful boutique-style rooms with a calm atmosphere and super friendly staff. It’s modern, comfortable, and just a short walk from the beach.
3. Tulum, Mexico – Avg Temp: 30°C (86°F)
If you’re after warm weather, palm trees, and turquoise water, Tulum is one of the best hot countries in October to visit. Located on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, it still has that tropical heat well into fall—perfect for beach lovers and sun-chasers.
Tulum has a bit of everything: white sand beaches, freshwater cenotes, Mayan ruins, yoga studios, Instagrammable cafés, and a surprisingly good food scene. Just make sure to pack smart—my beach bag essentials guide has everything I recommend for a full day in the sun.
October is near the end of hurricane season, so yes, there’s a small chance of rain—but that also means fewer crowds and better prices. I visited in early October and had mostly sunny skies, with just one quick afternoon storm.
🌿 Where I’d stay: NABOA Hotel Tulum – Small, stylish, and peaceful. It’s great value with world-class service, a dreamy infinity pool, and those lush garden vibes we all love.
4. Marrakech, Morocco – Avg Temp: 28°C (82°F)
Marrakech is one of the most popular warm destinations in October, and for good reason. The weather is still hot but more manageable than in summer, the medina is buzzing with life, and it’s a great time to visit before winter tourism kicks off.
Expect colorful souks, rooftop cafés, beautiful riads, and the call to prayer echoing through the city. It’s also one of the best places for shopping—especially if you know how to haggle. (If you don’t, here’s my guide to haggling while traveling).
If you have the time, I highly recommend booking an overnight trip to the desert. Sleeping under the stars and watching the sunrise over the dunes was easily one of the highlights of my Morocco trip.
🏜️ Where I’d stay: Agafay Luxury Camp – A beautiful glamping-style desert camp just outside Marrakech. It’s stylish, peaceful, and the perfect place to disconnect after a day in the city.
5. Hawaii, USA – Avg Temp: 29°C (84°F)
Hawaii is one of the best places to visit in October in North America if you’re looking for warm weather, beautiful beaches, and a laid-back island vibe. The temperatures are still high, the ocean is warm, and it falls just outside of peak season—so flights and hotels are often a bit more affordable.
You can’t really go wrong with any of the islands, but for first-timers, I’d recommend Oahu for the mix of beach and city, or Maui for quieter beaches and stunning coastal drives. I’ve also included Hawaii in my summer bucket list ideas if you’re planning ahead for next year.
Other warm places in the U.S. in October:
- Scottsdale, Arizona – Hot and dry with great hiking and resorts
- Las Vegas, Nevada – Warm weather, shows, and day trips to the desert
- Miami, Florida – Humid but sunny, with vibrant nightlife and beaches
- San Diego, California – Laid-back, coastal, and perfect for October
- Austin, Texas – Warm, quirky, and packed with food and music
- New Orleans, Louisiana – Warm weather and full of culture
🌺 Where I’d stay: Wayfinder Waikiki – Affordable, comfortable, and super close to Waikiki Beach. It’s got a pool, gym, and everything you need without the sky-high resort rates.
6. Lisbon, Portugal – Avg Temp: 26°C (79°F)
Warm weather, golden light, and quieter streets make Lisbon a perfect warm European destination in October. With the summer crowds gone, it’s a lot easier to enjoy the views, trams, and tiled streets without the chaos.
It’s one of my favorite cities for solo travel—easy to get around, full of character, and packed with great food. I loved wandering through Alfama, riding the tram just for fun, and stopping for pastéis de nata at every bakery I passed.
If you have extra time, head south to the Algarve. The beaches are still beautiful in October, and towns like Lagos or Albufeira are peaceful and warm, without the peak season prices.
🎒 Where I’d stay: Home Lisbon Hostel – Central, friendly, and affordable. It’s perfect if you’re backpacking Europe, with both dorms and private rooms available.
7. Santorini, Greece – Avg Temp: 24°C (75°F)
If you’re looking for warm places in Europe in October with stunning views and fewer crowds, Santorini is such a solid pick. The weather stays sunny and mild—perfect for a catamaran tour around the caldera and maybe even a swim. It’s not peak beach season, but the water is still swimmable if you don’t mind it a little cooler.
I visited in early October and really appreciated how calm the island felt. You can actually walk through Oia without fighting the crowds and take your own photos of the iconic white-and-blue views—without 50 people in the background.
It’s also one of the top honeymoon destinations in October if you’re after romance without the peak-season prices. The sunsets are just as magical, and both hotels and restaurants are way more affordable this time of year.
🌅 Where I’d stay: Art Maisons Oia Castle – A bit of a splurge, but the location and caldera views are incredible. It’s quiet, romantic, and perfect if you’re treating yourself to something special.
8. Hoi An, Vietnam – Avg Temp: 29°C (84°F)
Hoi An is easily one of the best warm destinations in October in Southeast Asia. It’s still hot, mostly sunny, and perfect if you’re after a mix of culture, beach time, and laid-back vibes—without blowing your budget. It’s definitely a must on any Southeast Asia bucket list.
Famous for its lantern-lit Old Town and tailor shops, it’s also a great spot for biking through rice fields, taking a Vietnamese cooking class, visiting local markets, or relaxing at An Bang Beach.
When I visited in October, mornings were sunny with just a few short afternoon showers. It was humid, but nothing that got in the way of exploring or enjoying the town.
🌊 Where I’d stay: Dechiu Hotel, Hoi An – Artsy, peaceful, and perfect for a relaxing vacation in October. Just steps from An Bang Beach, with cozy rooms, free bikes, and a lovely on-site café.
9. Tenerife, Canary Islands – Avg Temp: 27°C (81°F)
If you’re wondering where is warm in October in Europe, Tenerife should be at the top of your list. It’s part of Spain’s Canary Islands, located just off the coast of West Africa, and it stays hot and sunny even as much of mainland Europe starts to cool down.
You’ll find a great mix of black-sand beaches, volcanic hiking trails, scenic coastal drives, and cute towns to explore. It’s perfect for a relaxing beach vacation but also ideal if you want to rent a car and explore more of the island—I highly recommend it for the views alone.
Tenerife is also one of the more affordable warm holiday destinations in October, with lots of package deals, and budget-friendly restaurants. And if you’re traveling solo, don’t stress about eating out—going to a restaurant alone can actually be one of the most enjoyable parts of your trip
🌴 Where I’d stay: The Ritz-Carlton, Abama – A luxury escape with epic ocean views, multiple pools, and direct beach access. It’s a splurge, but totally worth it for the comfort, space, and Michelin-star dining.

10. Dubai, UAE – Avg Temp: 35°C (95°F)
Dubai is one of the hottest warm destinations in October, both literally and in terms of what it offers. Expect daily highs in the mid-30s°C (mid-90s°F), but it’s finally starting to cool off just enough to enjoy being outdoors—especially in the mornings and evenings.
It’s a city of contrasts: ultramodern skyscrapers, traditional souks, rooftop pools, luxury hotels, and golden deserts. You can go up the Burj Khalifa, shop at massive malls, take a boat ride in Dubai Marina, or ride a camel through the dunes.
When I visited, I only had a weekend but still fit a lot in. One of my favorite experiences was this full-day Abu Dhabi tour—super convenient and a great way to visit the Grand Mosque without the stress of planning everything yourself.
🏜️ Where I’d stay: Bab Al Shams Desert Resort – A peaceful, stylish escape just outside Dubai. It’s the perfect place to relax in the dunes after a hot day of exploring.

Best Travel Tips for Warm Weather in October
October is seriously one of the best months to travel—especially if you’re chasing the sun. Many of the best destinations in October are warm, affordable, and way less crowded than during summer or the winter holidays.
But because it’s still shoulder season in a lot of places, a little extra planning goes a long way. Here are my go-to tips for making the most of those warm October getaways:
- Book flexible flights and hotels. The weather can be a bit unpredictable in tropical regions like Mexico or Southeast Asia, so I always look for bookings that are easy to change or cancel just in case.
- Watch out for local holidays. October overlaps with major events like Golden Week in China and Diwali in India or Sri Lanka. It’s still a great time to visit, but you’ll want to book transport and accommodation early if your trip falls during these busy weeks.
- Wake up early. Whether you’re visiting temples in Egypt or beaches in Bali, early mornings are cooler, quieter, and way better for taking photos (especially if you’re traveling solo).
- Use flight trackers. Tools like Skyscanner and Hopper are great for snagging last-minute deals to warm destinations in October. Just set your alerts and be ready to jump on a good fare!
- Double-check what’s open. Some smaller towns in Europe—especially in Italy or Greece—start winding down in October. Check ferry schedules, restaurant hours, or attraction closures before you go.
- Don’t skip travel insurance. Weather hiccups, flight delays, or unexpected closures are more common this time of year. I personally use SafetyWing because it’s affordable and super easy to manage online.
- Pack for mixed weather. Hot countries can still see afternoon rain in October. I always bring a light jacket, quick-dry clothes, and a waterproof day bag just to be safe.
With a bit of flexibility and good timing, October really gives you the best of both worlds: warm weather and far fewer crowds. It’s one of the smartest—and most underrated—times to travel.
✈️ I use SafetyWing for affordable travel medical insurance that’s perfect for long trips and solo adventures. It’s flexible, reliable, and super easy to sign up for on the go.
